Follow the Financial Aid quick steps outlined below to get started.
Step 1: APPLY FOR ADMISSION
In order to be considered for financial aid, you must submit an application for admission to Northwood University’s Adult Degree Program. In addition, be sure to have your official transcripts sent to attention of the Adult Degree Program advisor you are working with.
Step 2: OBTAIN A PIN
Filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) electronically is the fastest and most accurate way to apply for financial aid. To do so you will need to obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN) before completing the FAFSA. To obtain a PIN request it online at http://www.pin.ed.gov
Step 3: APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID
You may file for Financial Aid by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov. List Northwood University in the number one position to ensure proper aid allocation. Make sure that you follow all signature requirements. Most applications are delayed due to incomplete signatures.

Step 4: PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION PLAN
With the assistance of an ADP advisor, you will complete a professional education plan. This helps determine what type of coursework you plan to enroll in and your enrollment status. These courses directly affect your financial aid eligibility. If you have any questions about how your enrollment affects your financial aid, please speak to an Adult Degree Program advisor.
Step 5: FOLLOW UP
You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the federal processor via email once you complete your FAFSA online. Review the SAR for accuracy and follow the instructions for corrections if there is an error to be sure to secure your aid. The Financial Aid Office will receive an electronic SAR as well. The Financial Aid Office may need to collect additional information from you. Please be prompt in responding to these requests, as they will ensure proper aid allocation.
Step 6: AWARD LETTER
The Financial Aid Office will provide you with an award letter when all required documents are completed. Your initial financial aid award letter will assume "full-time" enrollment status until your professional education plan is implemented. Please be sure to notify us of any changes to your action plan.
Step 7: LOAN FINALIZATION
After you receive your award letter, if you are a new borrower to the Direct Loan program, you must complete a Master Promissory Note (MPN) online at https://www.studentloans.gov. New borrowers will also need to complete an Entrance Counseling session online at https://www.studentloans.gov.
If you have borrowed previously while attending Northwood University, no action is required, your Direct Loans will be originated in the amounts reflected on your award letter. If you would like to reject these loans, you can do so on the WebAdvisor tab at http://my.northwood.edu. If you would like to change/reduce these loan amount(s) go the financial aid section at http://my.northwood.edu and select the Federal Direct Loan Change Form. This form must be completed, signed and can be mailed or faxed to the Financial Aid Office.
The following list is the current accepted method of payment:
- Personal check drawn on U.S. funds only
- Online payments: credit cards and e-checks
- Traveler’s checks and money orders
- Educational savings plan
- Third Party billing
- Financial Aid
Payment of tuition and fee charges can be made with cash, personal checks, bank drafts, money orders or credit cards. For those paying with a credit card the options have changed. A 2.5% fee will be charged for all credit card payments effective August 1, 2013.
