Students are encouraged to gain self-reliance through leadership experience and individual initiative. Approved activities must meet the following criteria:
- Student must hold a recognized position of leadership or authority for a recognized or approved organization.
- Student leaders must participate in at least 75% of the organization's activities.
- Student must hold the position for a minimum of one (1) term.
- An approved activity in this category may include leadership skill development workshops or activities.
- Credit is given once per term for leadership in an organization or on an individual activity basis.

- Head, lead, or be part of the governing body of any club or organization
- Represent Northwood University by giving informational presentations on Northwood's behalf
- Coordinator of a major event or activity
- Leadership Seminar involvement
- Varsity athletic team captain
- Participation in parades: Martin Luther King Jr. in Dallas, Cinco de Mayo in Grand Prairie, and Country Day on the Hill in Cedar Hill.
- Seminar and Conference attendance
- Mentoring and Tutoring
