Founding
Established in 1959 by Dr. Arthur E. Turner and Dr. R. Gary Stauffer to teach practical career skills and business principles based on the free enterprise concept. The Cedar Hill campus opened in 1966.
Computer Labs
Fully equipped computer labs include laser printers, scanning capability, individual students e-mail addresses, and internet connectivity including many wi-fi locations on campus. Software includes the most used programs in the business world including Microsoft Office.
Financial Aid
Over 85% of Northwood students receive some form of financial aid. Assistance is available through Northwood scholarships and grants and federal assistance for qualified students.

Admission
The following items are required to complete the admissions process:
- Application for Admission.
- Official high school transcript (waived with an Associate’s degree).
- Official ACT or SAT exam scores (freshman applicants only).
- All official college or university transcripts.
Transfer Admission
Students may enter Northwood at any point in their college career and transfer the maximum number of credit hours applicable to their program. Transfer students are those who have earned 24 hours of college credit or more. Any student who has 23 hours or less of college credit will be considered for freshman admission. A significant number of transfer scholarships are available for students who have at least a 2.7 cumulative GPA when transferring to Northwood University.
Athletics
Northwood University is a founding member of the Red River Athletic Conference in National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I, and competes in baseball, men’s and women’s cross country and track, women’s softball, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s soccer. Additionally, Northwood students can participate in intramural competition in volleyball, softball, basketball, and flag football. Honors Program
You can begin in the Honors Program as a freshman or transfer student. Students must meet two of three conditions: 3.25+ GPA, class ranking in top 10%, and/or and ACT of 25 or SAT of 1150.
Study Abroad Programs
Students are able to participate in international opportunities that will take them to Europe, Latin America, Asia, Australia and more. In additional, there are numerous exchange programs and mini session offerings for interested students.
