October 2008

 Welcome

Welcome to the November edition of the Northwood University alumni e-newsletter.

October was an exciting month on the Michigan campus.  The 45th Annual Northwood University International Auto Show (NUIAS) took place on October 10-12 and achieved a record attendance of over 55,000 visitors.  Show attendees were able to enjoy 485 new cars, including the Lamborghini Reventon and Bugatti Veyron.  Other auto show weekend highlights included meeting up with many old and new friends over the weekend at the various alumni events and inducting five new members into the Northwood University Hall of Fame.  Make sure to view the video below showing highlights of the weekend.

Northwood University welcomed Jeffrey Zaslow to an audience of over 1200 students, faculty, staff, and community members at the Hach Student Life Center at the Midland, Mich., campus in October.  Zaslow opened the presentation sharing his wit and wisdom about his incredible writing career. He then transitioned and shared his memories about the author of The Last Lecture, Randy Pausch. The presentation featured video clips of Pausch's last lecture and life-lessons Zaslow learned from spending time with Pausch.  Catch his presentation online at the link below.

We look forward to sharing the holiday season with you at one of our many holiday gatherings this year.  Review the upcoming events calendar to see what might be scheduled in your area.  And don’t forget, after the holiday season is auto show season; Northwood will host events at the Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland auto shows again this year.  Watch for details!

Remember to vote on election day; Tuesday, November 4, 2008!

 NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY – 50th ANNIVERSARY

Northwood University will soon be launching its 50th Anniversary Celebrations.  While the theme has been identified as ‘50 years of developing global, free-enterprise leaders, the core purpose is to engage alumni and friends who extend across the globe.  Thus, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is it difficult for you to find the time to revisit your distinct campus?
  • Do you keep in touch with classmates but rarely get an opportunity to see them?
  • Have you been looking for a way to reconnect with your alma mater?

Fortunately, the answer to all these questions is merely 3 months and 23 days away from inception.  However, in order to ensure that we provide you with the outcome you desire, we need your help.  Whether you offer us a destination point for an alumni and friends reunion, an activity that would encourage you to return to your campus, an event where you could connect with fellow graduates, or perhaps even nominate an alumni or business professional that is deserving of recognition throughout this 50th year, we want and need your input.  This is the 50th birthday of Northwood University and you are all invited.
Please submit all suggestions to Kelley Jackson and Jacksonk@northwood.edu or visit the Northwood 50th Anniversary website at www.northwood.edu/50
