January 2008
Welcome
Welcome to the January edition of the Northwood University alumni e-newsletter. We didn’t waste any time jumping into the New Year with energy and gumption. Many exciting things are already happening at Northwood in 2008. The first big announcement was the presentation of the new look and branding elements for Northwood. Click on this link NU Marketing Flash to see our new logo, official colors, tagline, and seal. We think you will find the elements well represent our university across the globe. Thanks to all who gave feedback over the past five months as these elements were developed.
We have also already held two major events in 2008. The 33rd annual Stafford Dinner was held on January 12, 2008 at the Black Forest Brew Haus and Grill in Frankenmuth, Michigan and the 4th annual North American International Auto Show Alumni & Friends reception was held at Cobo Hall in Detroit on January 16, 2008. Both of those events gathered our largest attendance to date; a great start to a new year at NU! Our next big events will be held at the Chicago Auto Show on February 8th and the Cleveland Auto Show on February 29th. Please contact me if you need additional information on any of our upcoming events.
Have a fun and safe Super Bowl weekend!

Athletics
Basketball News
The Northwood University basketball teams have enjoyed major improvements so far in the 2007-08 season. The women's team has already registered more than twice as many Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victories this season compared to last (7-3). The Timberwolves are currently one game out of first place in the GLIAC. Junior forward Megan Starnes has been named GLIAC North Division Player of the Week twice this season.
The men's team currently sits alone in second place in the GLIAC North Division. With eight games remaining, Northwood has more overall wins (10-9) and conference victories (5-4) than they did in all of the 2006-07 season. Junior guard Aaron Simpson recently became the 26th member of the 1,000 point club. He also earned GLIAC North Division Player of the Week honors as well.

19th Annual Northwood University International Creativity Conference
A Breath of Fresh Air: Creativity and Change
March 6 – 8, 2008
Midland, Michigan
Inspiration
The conference theme is inspired by the re-launching of the Alden B. Dow Creativity Center at Northwood University. The Center has established a new mission and strategic direction - its own exciting change in programming and operations. There are two conference changes this year. One positions the Creativity Conference in March to increase Northwood’s student participation. The other is to register for the conference beginning January 31, 2008 online at www.northwood.edu/abd.
