Study Abroad Programs Benefit Students, Faculty, and Brand Awareness

Among the many value-added offerings at Northwood University our Study Abroad Program possesses an increasingly important role. Exposing our students to businesses, industries, and cultures around the world, while promoting Northwood University globally, is at the core of our mission “to develop the future leaders of a global, free enterprise society.”

Northwood’s Study Abroad efforts fall into three basic categories: NU Exchange programs, NU Faculty-led programs, and our Young Presidents’ Organization-World Presidents’ Organization (YPO-WPO) partnership. The goal of each is to create more opportunities by:

  • Raising awareness of the NU brand among international business leaders
  • Internship opportunities for students globally
  • Establishing relationships and business connections around the world

In addition, we are working with Dean of International Programs Mamiko Reeves and her team to explore the option of hosting YPO members as guest speakers on our campuses system wide. At present, Northwood is involved in exchange programs with the following institutions in the corresponding countries listed:

  • ESSCA – France
  • ESSCA – Hungary
  • PUCMM – Dominican republic
  • Ostfalia University – Germany
  • Hague University – Netherlands
  • INTI College – Malaysia
  • AIU – London
  • London Met/USAC – London
  • John Cabot – Italy
  • PALAZZI – Italy
  • Bilbao/Getxo/USAC – Spain
  • Massey University/USAC – New Zealand

In addition to the above, we are examining whether to expand our offerings to include more universities in Spain as well as study options in South America and South Africa.

Finally, following successful programs in Belize and the Dominican Republic this academic year, Northwood will host the following faculty led study programs through the fall 2013 semester:

  • Italy, March 7-16
  • London, May 11-18
  • China, May 19-31
  • Semester in Asia, June–July
  • Semester in Europe, Fall Semester

As we move forward in implementing and refining our Strategic Plan system wide, it is important for each of us to remain familiar with our Study Abroad Programs and promote this information as often as we can.

Have a great weekend.
