Northwood Competitive Speech Team Competes in Perfect Pairs Swing

The Northwood University Competitive Speech Team kicked off another season the weekend of November 9-10 on the campus of Central Michigan University (CMU) at the Perfect Pairs Swing hosted by the University of Michigan and CMU. Northwood University took 8th place both Saturday and Sunday despite competing head-to-toe with some of the nation’s best teams, such as Bradley University, first in nation last year, and North Central College, which ranked first in Northwood’s division.

The team was comprised of Cody Colella, a senior and team captain from Pittsburgh, PA; Joshua Gammon, a junior from Midland; Kirk Longuski, a junior from Bay City; McKenzie Terwillegar, a sophomore from Highland; Amber Osburn, a sophomore from Tecumseh, and Miranda Kennedy, a sophomore from Unionville. Four out of six members qualified for nationals—Kirk Longuski in persuasive speaking, Joshua Gammon in impromptu speaking, McKenzie Terwillegar in extemporaneous speaking and first-time competitor Amber Osburn in prose.

The Competitive Speech Team will finish the fall semester with the Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League (M.I.S.L.) in Detroit on the campus of Wayne State University on December 14.
