On Thursday, October 10, Northwood University students will return to Downtown Midland for the 36th year to pose as mannequins in 30-40 store window fronts. The modeling takes place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be opportunities for the crowd to make the mannequins move or smile. Mannequin Night is sponsored by the Northwood University Fashion Marketing & Management (FMM) department and the Midland Downtown Business Association (DBA).
This year’s theme is “Mystical Illusion” and will feature a variety of takes on light and fashion. The class teamed up with the Art and Sol Festival as an opportunity to not only promote the event but also explore and articulate Northwood’s version. Windows are graded as a class project and also judged in such categories as: Best Overall, Honorable Mention Overall, Most Original, Best Models, Most Artistic and the Professor’s Award.
Jill Ouellette, chair of Northwood’s Fashion Marketing & Management department, states, “This year we are very thrilled to once again connect with the community on this stimulating event. Initially the theme was a challenge for the students. However, once they began to entertain the multitude of possibilities this theme could offer, their ideas just flowed in many directions. You will, therefore, see three major takes on fashion and light and how the two connect. I am very excited to see what they come up with and I believe the community will greatly enjoy their interpretations.”
