Hach Student Life Center

The Hach Student Life Center, managed by Timberwolf Recreation, was funded by a $10 million gift to Northwood University by Kathryn Hach-Darrow in May 2000. This gift was the largest single grant in the history of the university.

KathrynHachDarrowDr. Kathryn Hach-Darrow is the former chairman and CEO of the Hach Company of Loveland, Colorado, a leading manufacturer of instrumentation for analysis of water and wastewater. She is a founding member of the Committee of 200 for executive women and a licensed pilot. She received Northwood University’s Outstanding Business Leader Award in 1992 and an honorary doctor of laws from the university in 1998.

The Hach Student Life Center is a comprehensive recreation facility that responds to the lifelong recreational, social, and educational needs of Northwood University. Under the direction of Timberwolf Recreation (Timber Rec), the center is a recreational, intramural, and fitness complex that strives to meet the diverse needs of students, faculty, and staff in a dynamic environment that encourages both active participation and casual use. The Hach Student Life Center was built as an addition to the existing athletic facility to maximize use of both centers.

The facilities operated by Timberwolf Recreation include:
  • An Aquatics Center located in the Bennett Sports Center.
  • The Bennett Weight Training Facility, equipped with over 4,000 pounds of free weights and dumbbells ranging from 5 to 100 pounds. The facility consists of 20 pieces of ProMaxima equipment, 4 power racks, and 4 Olympic platforms.
  • Three multi-purpose courts that are utilized for a wide range of sports, including basketball, volleyball, and badminton.
  • A four-lane track for running, jogging, and/or walking.
  • A Fitness Center equipped with Cybex circuit weight training systems, elliptical trainers, stair steppers, bikes, dumbbells, benches, and mats.
  • A Multi-Use/Wellness room used for fitness classes and other activities.
  • Locker rooms equipped with shower facilities and lockers designed for daily use only.
  • The lobby area serves as a check-in point, in addition to housing a health food snack bar, and leisure areas equipped with network connections for laptop computers.
