Tim Koth
Head Coach
Tim Koth is entering his fourth season as the head coach of the Northwood Volleyball program.
In his time as head coach, Koth has posted a record of 60-32 (.652) while guiding Northwood to the GLIAC Tournament all in all three seasons.
The Timberwolves went 16-11 in 2006, earning a bid to the GLIAC Tournament. The Timberwolves featured a pair of second team All-GLIAC honorees in Michelle Acker and Marija Zivanovic.
The 2005 season saw Northwood finish second in the GLIAC behind eventual national champion Grand Valley. NU finished the year with a 23-11 overall mark and reached the finals of the GLIAC Tournament. Northwood also made its second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament under the guidance of Koth.
In his first season at the helm, Koth guided Northwood to a 21-10 overall record and a final national raking of 18th. His team was ranked as high as No. 14 in the nation, and started the year with a 12-1 record, during which the Timberwolves snapped Northern Michigan's 32-match regular season winning streak. NU eventually qualified for the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Great Lakes Regional final. That matched the longest run for NU in the NCAA Tournament in program history.
Koth came to Northwood after spending the previous eight seasons as the head coach of both the Quincy men's and women's volleyball teams. As the women's head coach in 2003, he guided the Lady Hawks to an 18-11 record despite a rash of injuries. He earned a total of 190 victories between the two programs (106 women's, 84 men's). Koth's best season with the women's team came in 1998 which included a run to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament finals. As the men's coach, he guided the 2000 Hawks team to a 17-11 record and a home game in the first round of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play. It was the first time in program history the men's team had hosted a postseason game.
Prior to his arrival at Quincy, Koth spent nine seasons at the Division I level. From 1987-94, he served as an assistant for both the men's and women's assistant coach at California State-Northridge. He was a part of the Matadors women's NCAA Division II National Championship season in 1987-88. He also was a part of the men's team that finished as the men's runner-up in 1993. Koth was the No. 1 assistant for John Price, the 1993 National Coach of the Year.
Koth then moved back to the Michigan area in 1994, serving as the assistant coach at Eastern Michigan University. While at EMU, Koth also served as the head coach of the men's club team. He became the interim head women's coach for the Eagles in 1995 before moving to Quincy.
A total of five of Koth's recruits have been involved with the USA National Volleyball program.
A native of Mt. Clemens, Mich., Koth was the head coach of the Warren St. Anne High School team prior to his days as a collegiate coach. That squad won Catholic and District titles, earning rankings as high as No. 4 in the state. Koth was named Coach of the Year by many publications that season.
Koth is a 1989 graduate of Cal State-Northridge. He is a member of the AVCA and USA Volleyball.
