Doug Carter

Head Men's and Women's Soccer Coach

Doug Carter is the head coach for both the men's and women's soccer programs at Northwood. He has been the women's head coach since 1998 and the men's head coach since the inception of the program in 2001. His record with the women's team stands at 73-89-10, while his men's record is 50-58-10. He has been named the Men's Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year in 2003 and the GLIAC Men's Coach of the Year in 2004.  Carter also guided the men's team to the first-ever GLIAC Tournament Champioionship match in 2007

Carter began his career with the Timberwolves in 1997 as an assistant coach. Following that season, the England native replaced Ron Hebert, who started the women's soccer program at Northwood in 1994

Prior to coming to Northwood, Carter was an assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State University for one season. Since 1996, he has been strongly involved in area youth soccer as well. He is the former Director of Soccer for the Saginaw Township Soccer Association and was a Coaching Professional for the same organization.

Carter played collegiate soccer for the University of Surrey in England. He started all three seasons and was team captain for two of those campaigns. He also played 11 seasons for the Civil Service Football Club in London.

In 1992, Carter graduated from the University of Surrey with Bachelor of Science degrees in Psychology and Sports Studies. The Ashley resident is married to Kelly, and they have a son, Liam.

Wendy Wilson
Assistant Men's and Women's Soccer Coach

Wendy Wilson just completed her first season with the soccer programs at Northwood University. 

Wilson goes back a long time with head coach Doug Carter, having been recruited to Saginaw Valley while Carter was an assistant coach for the Cardinals.  After playing for a season with SVSU, Wilson transferred to Aquinas where she played for two years. 

Prior to her arrival at Northwood, Wilson spent two seasons as an assistant at Olivet College.  Wilson has also coached at Lansing Waverly High School and the Capital Area United Club team.  She earned her bachelor's degree from Aquinas in 2000 and a juris doctor from the Michigan State College of Law in 2004.

Dean Pappas
Assistant Men's and Women's Soccer Coach

Dean Pappas resently completed his first season as an assistant for the Northwood University soccer programs.

Pappas came to Northwood with a variety of coaching experience.  He was the head coach at Saginaw Valley from 2002-03, guiding the Cardinals to its first regional ranking in school history.  SVSU had its best record in program history under Pappas and featured All-Region goalkeeper Adrian Thomas.  Pappas has also enjoyed success as the Flushing High School Boys and Girls coach, winning a total of seven District Championships and one Regional title. 

He has a USSF National Coaching license and remains active in the club scene, running the 15 and up age group with the Genesee Star Soccer Club.  Pappas is member of the MSYSA Instructional staff as well as a member of the Olympic Development Program Staff.   He has also spent time as the coach at the Vardar-Michigan Soccer Club.
