MIDLAND, MI – Northwood University will host its annual New Students Move-in Day on Friday, August 23. The purpose of this event is to welcome new Northwood students and their families. Many great activities have been scheduled to help our new freshmen and their families adjust to college life. The orientations for incoming freshmen have already taken place over the summer weeks. This year’s theme is “Aloha Timberwolves.”
The moving-in process will begin on Friday, August 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Miner Hall. Northwood ambassadors consisting of faculty, staff, student organization members and resident assistants will greet and help the new students carry their belongings to their dorm rooms. Following move-in will be an Ohana Hawaiian family lunch outside the Gerstacker Student Union from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Once the students have had lunch they will walk to the Bennett Sports Center to participate in the Welcome and Timberwolf Crossover at 3 p.m. Following the crossover the students can visit the Student Organization Fair from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Hach Student Life Center to see how they can become involved on campus and volunteer in the Midland community. A luau dinner will also be held in the Hach Student life Center from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. followed by a kickball game hosted by Northwood’s Student Alumni Network at 7 p.m. at the practice softball fields. The day concludes with a beach bash at 9 p.m. in the Student Union.
The events continue on Saturday, August 24, with mandatory residence life meetings. Freshmen students will also be participating in a service project hosted by Circle K International to create the color packets that will be used in the United Way Color Run to be held September 14. Afterwards the students will get the chance to tie dyed t-shirts and enjoy mocktails in the Hach Student Life Center. Sunday’s events include an introduction to the many intramural sports offered at Northwood and an ice cream social at 8 p.m. hosted by Northwood’s Greek life.
The returning Northwood students will be moving in on Saturday, August 24, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, August 25, from noon to 9 p.m.
