CEDAR HILL, TX – Northwood University will launch its new Certificate of Completion in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) on May 20. The Certificate of Completion, which consists of four online classes, trains professionals to develop innovative solutions for real-world problems through a combination of map and geospatial technologies and business skill sets.
Professionals who complete the program will be well-versed in GIS theory, understand how to design and manage spatial databases, and gain experience building and using data models. According to Dr. Lynda Folts, director of the program, the timing for this offering couldn’t be better.
“Economic slowdowns around the world are forcing organizations to streamline operations. Graduates of this program will be prepared to lead organizations through operational challenges while boosting potential profitability,” stated Folts. “Fleet managers, financial services, retailers, realtors, insurers, asset managers, emergency managers, urban planners and others benefit in many ways,” she continued.
Designed to accommodate both working adults and full-time students, the program is offered entirely online and awards two continuing education units (CEUs) per course for a total of eight CEUs upon completion. Students can register for one or multiple classes and completion of all four courses is required to receive the Certificate of Completion in GIS.
According to Dr. Folts, the certificate is a real differentiator in today’s competitive business environment. “Knowledge of GIS software and data will allow those who complete the program to make more informed business decisions by optimizing openings and closings, segmenting consumer data and managing fleets,” said Folts. “GIS can visualize, manage and analyze any business asset. Whether its employees, customers, facilities or the supply chain networks, students have the opportunity to lead their industries with cutting-edge technology,” she explained.
