CEDAR HILL, Texas – Northwood University’s Travis Kemp has been named a GCAA All-American scholar. This is the second such honor for Kemp, a Canadian who was Northwood’s 2013 class valedictorian. "Back when I was still teaching I had Travis in one of my classes,” commented Northwood Texas Athletics Director Jack Allday. “It was obvious he had a Cracker Jack mind, and Travis was one of those young men it was a joy to have in class.” A total of 152 players in Division I, 57 in Division II and 18 in NAIA earned the honor. To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
"Travis has been the undoubted leader of this team for the last couple of years. He has been a shining light off the course which ultimately ended with him being awarded some of the highest academic honors you can earn. He is very smart, and has combined this with a strong work ethic and good time management. Travis already has a job with AT&T and will thrive in the workplace. He is a great guy and was/is/will be a credit to Northwood at all times," said Men's & Women's Head Golf Coach, Ben Belfield.
