CEDAR HILL, Texas – In a crisply played game Tuesday (3/12) that saw each side garner seven hits, Northwood prevailed over the visiting Oklahoma City University Stars, 3-1. Northwood used six pitchers, while OCU sent three hurlers to the mound. Jason Gareri, who followed starter Clayton Woodruff, picked up the win. Colton Reavis pitched a scoreless ninth to earn a save.
The Knights broke through a scoreless game in their half of the fourth, thanks to a two-run homer off the bat of left fielder Herb Romero. Northwood picked up an insurance run in the fifth when Joee Reyna doubled home Ike Maturino.
Neither team committed an error. The win means the Knights won all three games against OCU this year. Northwood had won an early season double header at OCU on February 8th, shutting out the Stars in both contests.
The Knights are now 18-6 on the season and remain tied with Bacone College atop the Red River Athletic Conference. Northwood takes on its arch rival, Texas Wesleyan, in a three-game set beginning Thursday (3/14) at 2:00 PM at Knights Field. The opener will be followed by a game Friday afternoon (3/15) at 2:00 PM at LaGrave Field in Ft. Worth. The teams will then square off Saturday (3/16) at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. First pitch for that game is at 1:00 PM.
