CEDAR HILL, Texas – Northwood University, Texas is pleased to announce Mat Dromey as the new faculty instructor of fashion marketing and merchandising. Mr. Dromey has worked at Northwood University’s Texas campus as an adjunct professor since 1995 teaching courses in marketing and management.
He stated, “Northwood has a different view for students. They truly believe that the environment for the student is essential and everything that they do shows just that. That is why I chose to teach at Northwood.”
When asked on his plans for introducing the fashion program to male students, Mr. Dromey stated, “I would think that any student would enjoy the fashion marketing and merchandising program because it is the business part of the industry. This is a springboard for positions such as buying, merchandising, and marketing. It is open to everyone and it is a very exciting and fulfilling career.”
Mr. Dromy started his retail career with Winn Dixie Stores where he worked in various positions and earned a 4 year scholarship to college. He went on to join the Army and Air Force Exchange Services as a College Trainee in 1983 and has held various positions in the field, region and headquarters. These included Senior Buyer, Merchandise Manager, Division Merchandise Manager, Division Merchandise Manager, Retail Business Manager, Program Manager, Vice President Consumables, Vice President Corporate Compliance, Vice President Fashion Apparel and Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer.
On December 28, 2012, Mr. Dromey retired from the Army and Air Force Exchange Services after 30 years of service.
Mr. Dromey earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Management/Marketing from Dallas Baptist University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of South Florida.
He has also completed Executive/Senior Leadership Programs at Harvard, Yale, Wharton, Darden School of Business, University of Michigan, Texas A&M University, University of Chicago, SMU, and Rice University. In addition, he earned his lifetime certification as a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P. M.) from the Institute for Supply Management.
Dr. Terry J. Silva, academic dean shared, “We are very pleased to have Mat Dromey as the new fashion marketing and merchandising instructor. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from the retail industry that will add value to our current FMM (fashion marketing and merchandising) program”.
Mat Dromey is very family oriented. “My family is very important to me. I have been married going on 22 years and we have a wonderful son as well,” stated Mr. Dromey.
The fashion students are excited as a whole for the new change. Kourtni Smith, a sophomore fashion marketing and management major, expressed, “He is like a breath of fresh air and his style of teaching is very relatable.”
His advice for students is “Never underestimate the importance of education. It has become a requirement for the workforce. Always be flexible, business is tough.”
