CEDAR HILL, Texas – The Northwood Texas Alumni are having a blast this summer as they engage in a variety of activities throughout DFW. Natasha Elder, the director of alumni relations, has planned a number of summer events for the Texas alumni, including a summer mixer on Thursday, June 6 where graduates networked and relaxed together at The Oasis at Joe Pool Lake.
This last Tuesday, Northwood alumni gathered at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington to watch the Texas Rangers take on the Oakland Athletics. For a special Northwood discount, alumni and friends could enjoy the ballgame while indulging in an all you can eat buffet. A short mixer before the first pitch allowed alumni from a variety of graduating classes to connect and reconnect with one another.
In other Alumni news, Northwood graduate Maribel De Leon-Cantu has been recognized in the 2013 edition of the Dallas Business Journal's 40 Under 40 list. Out of more than 300 nominations De Leon was chosen to be one of the 40. To qualify for this honor, candidates must have a proven track record of both business and community involvement. The Dallas Business Journal states that they are looking for “executives that really shine – innovators, dealmakers, influential leaders who excel in their respective companies and industries, and show dynamic leadership in their communities.” De Leon-Cantu is certainly one of those individuals. In addition to working as a business adviser at Dallas SBDC (North Texas Small Business Development Center) and a producer for TZOM Films, Maribel serves as Vice President on Northwood University’s Texas Alumni Leadership Council.
Natasha Elder couldn’t be more excited for Maribel’s award: “We are so proud to have Maribel as a graduate of Northwood University. She exemplifies the Northwood Core Values, encourages the entrepreneurial spirit through her work, and has volunteered many hours for the alumni association. This recognition is well-deserved!”
To help bring the summer to a close and kick off the fall season, alumni can look forward to Scholarship Strike-Out, an alumni bowl-a-thon, in late August. Please stay tuned for more details.
