CEDAR HILL, Texas–Under the direction of Larry Hartwick, Will James, and Head Coach, Renee Lewton, the Men’s Track and Field team placed second of nine in the Red River Conference Championships. The field events were held on Friday April 20th, at Oklahoma Christian University and the running events at Langston University in Oklahoma City, OK on Saturday.

Ben Meyer, a junior marketing major at Northwood, threw the first points on the board with a 1st place finish in the discus with a throw of 42.23m. Meyer also threw a personal record in the shot put with a throw of 13.08m.

NAIA’s fastest 800m runner, Joshua Kosgei, had multiple great performances. In the 800m, Kosgei edged out teammate, Aaron Rodarte with a time of 1:52.94. Kosgei set a personal record of 1:50.54 two weekends ago at the University of North Texas. Kosgei also won the 1500m with a time of 3:58.29.

Other 1st place finishes included the 4x800m relay team of Ebenezer Eshete, Marcus Johnson, Joshua Kosgei, and Aaron Rodarte. Finance major, Taylor Reyes, added a 1st place finish in the pole vault and posted 3rd in the javelin throw.

Women’s standouts included Trayshaenae Wright and Natasha Norman. Wright took 1st in the 400m with a time of 57.67 and 3rd in the 200m. Sophomore, Natasha Norman, established a personal record in the shot put, javelin and the discus.

Northwood Track and Field will be competing on the 10th of May at Oklahoma Baptist and will finish the season on the 24th at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in Marion, IN.

“Everyone knew going into conference what they had to do and they did it. I’m really proud of everyone’s positive attitude. Some athletes weren't too excited about competing in some events but they stepped up and competed to the best of their abilities for the rest of their team members. That really shows great character”, said Coach Lewton, Head Cross Country and Track/Field Coach.
