CEDAR HILL, Texas – Northwood University students are very busy meeting their new professors and learning about everything that Northwood has to offer.  This week was full of a number of activities for the students to attend.  Monday’s luau was rescheduled due to the weather, however by Tuesday things were back in full swing.

Tuesday night the Knights participated in a welcome back foam party, where students had fun dancing and playing amidst bubbles in the Butler parking lot. Wednesday, Northwood hosted an activities involvement fair in Knight’s Hall where the students could learn about all the organizations on campus.

Northwood’s annual convocation took place Thursday, August 30 on the Texas campus.  Alumni honored included Randy Richter, Hector Lopez, Pamela Anderson and the Honorable John Ames.

“Northwood is honored to have such commendable alumni return to campus and join us for Opening Convocation. Each individual has exhibited outstanding career success, remains involved with the University, and exudes the Northwood philosophy. What great role models to present to our students,” said Natasha Elder, Director of Alumni Relations, Northwood University - Texas.

For only the second time in Northwood history the Knights Champion Award was awarded to Leah Fullinwider the wife of Jerry Fullinwider.  Leah and Jerry Fullinwider are the cofounders of the Value Emphasis Speaker Series.

President Fegan explained it perfectly when he spoke so eloquently about what it means to be a Knights Champion.  He compared his close family life to the lives of the Fullinwiders’ by saying to Leah Fullinwider, “You have been in the life of Dr. Fullinwider every day, your daughters and you have been in the lives of every one of our students here.  We can’t think you enough, and that’s what a Knights Champion is.”

That night the students bonded at a Student Government Association bonfire and the annual Knight Pride Shirt was revealed and distributed for students to wear on College Colors Day the next day.  The week’s events concluded with a cleaning of Highway 1382 in front of the university as part of the Adopt-A-Highway project.
