Northwood University Hosted an Alumni Soccer Game

April 26, 2012

CEDAR HILL, Texas – Saturday April 21st Northwood University hosted an Alumni Soccer Game at Knights Field.  The women’s game was at 3:30PM and the men played at 5:30PM.  Josh Shankle, admissions counselor and current NU senior, provided an entertaining commentary for both games.

About 20 NU graduates came back for the games, including alumni from Houston, Austin and as far away as Illinois.  The men’s alumni team created special ‘We Are Knights’ shirts for the game.  Several alumni also stopped by the MBA information table to learn more about the graduate program.

“While some still play in adult leagues, many of them commented on how happy they were to be back on the field,” said Alumni Director Natasha Elder.

Current students helped cook and distribute food. For the first time the alumni office offered hot dogs, assorted chips, and water free of charge to players, friends, family, and spectators.  Student volunteers included Miguel Ibarra, Luzely Lopez, Hugo Rodriguez, Ronald Lankford, and Dominic Barcelon with Joshua Reyes on the grill.  The students also gathered in the Student Activity Center before the game to make ‘Welcome Alumni’ signs.

“It was a beautiful day! Perfect for soccer”, said Coach Nasko, Head Men's Soccer Coach. “I am looking forward to next year”.
