Northwood University students were honored for their scholastic achievements during the annual Honors Convocation on Sunday, April 15, 2012, in the Griswold Lecture Hall.

MIDLAND, MI – Northwood University students were honored for their scholastic achievements during the annual Honors Convocation on Sunday, April 15, 2012, in the Griswold Lecture Hall.

President & CEO Keith A. Pretty gave the welcome and alumnus and 2008 Arthur E. Turner Award Recipient Eric P. Nelson gave the address. Kayte Aspray, associate academic dean, served as Honors Convocation Chair.

Students listed below received honors during the ceremony:

Adam Matzke, a senior from Midland, was named valedictorian and Gerald Eluskie, a senior from Lake Orion, was named salutatorian. Adam Matzke also received the R. Gary Stauffer Business Administration Award (the second highest award presented to a graduate), the EXCEL Award, the Ludwig Von Mises Award and the Banking and Finance Award. Gerald Eluskie also was one of the recipients of the Entertainment, Sport & Promotion Management Award.

Alyssa Studebaker, a senior from Macomb, received The Arthur E. Turner Award (which is the top award presented to a graduate).

Ashley Stark, a senior from Saginaw, received The Vada Bennett Dow Humanitarian Award; Amee Cox, a sophomore from England, received the Dr. Catherine W. Chen Endowed Scholarship Award; Aaron Grace, a freshman from Flushing, and Gabrielle Doman, a freshman from Sparta, both received the Edgar A. Madden Writing Award; Adam Gulvas, a junior from Standish, received the Willo Anker Award; Dustin Mitchell, a senior from Berryton, KS, received the Town and Campus Leadership Award and the William T. Anderson Management Information Systems Award.

Siddhant Kachole, a senior from India, and Ezen Wee, a senior from Malaysia, both received the Outstanding International Student Award, while Ezen Wee also received the Marketing Award. McKenzie Rowley, a senior from Durand, received the Charles DuBois Award and the Fashion Marketing and Management Award, while Sara Niezgoda, a senior from Livonia, also received the Fashion Marketing and Management Award. Jacob Trost, a senior from Carrollton, IL, received the G.D. Crain, Jr. Foundation Award; Shannon Corby, a senior from Plymouth, received The Edward N. Cole Award; Kameron Driskell, a senior from Burton, received the National Automobile Dealers Association Award.

John Allen, a senior from Rochester Hills, received The I.W. Thompson Automotive Award; Marcell  Chandler, a senior from Gaylord, received the International Business Award; Grant Peffer, a senior from Mt. Pleasant, and Cory Pyscher, a senior from Alma, both received the Entrepreneurship Award; Eric Somsel, a senior from Brethren, was one of the recipients of the Entertainment, Sport & Promotion Management Award; Meghan Braciszewski, a senior from Shelby Township, received The Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth Hospitality Award; Lucas Parsch, a senior from Imlay City, received the Automotive Aftermarket Management Award.

Bradley Smith, a junior from Montrose, received The Frederick T. Keeler Marketing Scholarship Award; Benjamin Nowak, a senior from Midland, received the Management Award; Mary Canze, a junior from Midland, received the Institute of Management Accountants Award; Jennifer Feuerstein, a senior from Gladwin, and Yan Zhuang, a senior from Potterville, both received the Northwood University Accounting Award; LaTerry Aaron, a senior from Inkster, and Kirk Longuski, a freshman from Essexville, both received the Pi Kappa Delta Omicron Chapter Distinguished Competitive Speaker of the Year Award.

Andrew Buchanan, a senior from Rochester, received The Arts and Business Award; Benjamin Marsh, a sophomore from Midland, and Joshua Allen, a sophomore from Rhodes, both received The Donald D. Burchard Journalism Award (for The Timberwolf Howl student newspaper); Brian Kabel, a senior from Shelby Township, received The Robert M. Ellis Award; Keith Lough, a senior from the United Kingdom (male athlete), and Kristin Cameron (female athlete), a student at the Richard DeVos Graduate School, both received the David and Daniel Goetz Academic Athlete Award; and Andrea Medina, a senior from Streetsboro, OH, received the Student Government Association Activities Award.
