MIDLAND, MI – With the start of the fall semester, Northwood University announces the promotion of four faculty to the rank of associate professor. These professors are Mariana Grigoras, Dr. Stelian Grigoras, Douglas Hentschel and Karla Spaeth. The promotion of faculty at Northwood University is based on the individual’s academic credentials, teaching effectiveness, length of service and extracurricular service to the university.

Mariana Grigoras is an associate professor and chair of the social sciences and humanities department. Grigoras earned her M.A. from the University of Bucharest. She received the Northwood Faculty Excellence Award in 2011.

Dr. Stelian Grigoras is an associate professor in the mathematics and science department. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago and both his M.A. and M.S. degrees from the University of Bucharest.

Douglas Hentschel is an associate professor and chair of the Operations and Supply Chain Management department and also teaches in the mathematics and science department. He earned his M.S. from Clemson University and B.A. from Kalamazoo College.

Karla Spaeth is an associate professor and chair of the Hospitality Management program. Spaeth received both her M.B.A. and B.B.A degrees from Northwood University. She was recognized with the Michigan Campus Compact Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award in 2009 and in 2010 was a recipient of Northwood University’s Innovation Award.
