CEDAR HILL, Texas – On April 21, Northwood University partnered with the Best Southwest Regional Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program to conduct a joint training exercise for the BSWR CERT's Class #14. The CERT Training program provides a skill set and knowledge on how to respond in the event of catastrophic or natural disasters.
The Exercise Task Force of Steven Clem, Mark Lene and Pete McCormick worked on the orchestration for several months coordinating with Northwood’s Dean of Students Mike Anguiano; this exercise was the product of a continually expanding relationship that started in 2009 when Northwood began the Campus CERT training program.
Anguiano acknowledges that “Each year we learn a little more about ourselves and about how we can partner with the community. This is only the start of a very valuable and productive developmental experience. The program and training offered contributes to the growth of our students and the local community. We look forward to a continued partnership with the Best Southwest CERT program”.
Northwood added three new members to its growing list of trained campus community members. Freshmen students Alyssa Gapinski and Pedro Davila and staff member Edward Downing join a total of over 35 campus members who have participated in the training since the spring of 2009.
