MIDLAND, MI – On Tuesday, October 23, at 8 p.m. Miss Michigan, Angela Venditti, will be speaking at Northwood University in the Bennett Sports Center. This free event is open to the public and part of a series for Northwood’s annual Alcohol Awareness Week which is sponsored in partnership with the Legacy Center for Community Success, formerly Midland Area Partnership for Drug Free Youth.
Venditti, a 2011 graduate from Oakland University and a Shelby Township native, was crowned in June of this year. Her platform has been “Above the Influence: Keeping Kids Drug Free” and this event is another chance for her to spread her message to kids about the negative effects of drug use and the importance of living above the influence.
Following Miss Michigan’s speech, Delta Zeta sorority will be hosting a lantern releasing ceremony in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Northwood’s Alcohol Awareness Week. The proceeds from the lanterns will be split between the two causes. The lanterns will be sold one for $3 or two for $5 and are available in either red or pink.
For more information about the Miss Michigan event, the lantern releasing ceremony or any of Northwood’s other Alcohol Awareness Week events, contact Teresa Sullivan, director of residence and student life, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
