Florida Professor Awarded Fellowship Scholarship
Awarded annually to graduate students, the scholarship honors an advocate of community education.

Northwood University Florida adjunct faculty member Susan Dennett was recently awarded a Florida Atlantic University (FAU) College of Education Scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Dennett, who is pursuing a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership with Florida Atlantic University, was awarded the Ernest O. Melby Fellowship Scholarship in the amount of $10,000.
The Ernest O. Melby Fellowship Endowment honors Dr. Ernest O. Melby who was a pioneer philosopher and advocate of community education. In 1976, he accepted a distinguished position at FAU where he served as a special consultant and lecturer for the Center for Community Education since 1965. The gift was established in 1987, and is awarded annually to graduate students in the Department of Educational Leadership. It is allocated for Dennett's use during the current academic year.
Dennett has been employed at Northwood University for four years. Also a frequent guest speaker with Palm Beach State College, she has over 15 years of international human resource management experience with major organizations including Lionel Trains, QVC, the Marriott Corporation and more. Her areas of expertize include union negotiations, recruitment and selection, strategic planning, training and development, employment law, employee relations, management and leadership
With a passion for travel and culture, Dennett has travelled extensively in the Far East, Asia, Europe and East Africa. She followed Dian Fossey's journey in exploring the lives of the Silver Back Gorillas in the mountain forests of Rwanda.
Dennett earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Oakland University, Rochester Hills. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA from Florida State University with a Master's of Science degree in Human Resource Development/Education. She is currently pursuing a PhD at Florida Atlantic University in Educational Leadership. After recently passing her comprehensive exams, Dennett is on her way to conducting research on the influence of culture on critical thinking skills.
Dennett is also a certified member of the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and coaches both juniors and adults in her spare time. She is married with a 9 year old daughter, and resides in Palm City, Florida.
