CEDAR HILL – Northwood University's Automotive students and department chairs recently attended the launch of Toyota's new 4Runner on the grounds of the State Fair of Texas.

The group mingled with executives from Toyota and other companies, and learned about the importance of any car's launch. Steve Brazill, lead faculty member of the Automotive Retail Management Department, and Dr. David Spaulding, lead faculty in Automotive Aftermarket, participated in the day.

"The launch of a new model is an important event, something that sets the stage for the future success -- or failure -- of a vehicle," said Professor Brazill. Toyota's generous invitation gave Northwood's students in the Automotive Retail Management program a 'backstage' look at the kind of event they may themselves be planning as future executives with auto manufacturers. This is another example of how Northwood takes education beyond classrooms and textbooks."

Northwood's Automotive Aftermarket curriculum includes studies in the vehicle parts manufacturing, distribution and service categories. Northwood's industry-specific curriculum is designed to help automotive and heavy duty professionals of any age or skill level enhance their success - and their organizations' competitive advantage.

Automotive Retail Management on Northwood's Texas campus involves studying dealership advertising, finance and insurance, budgeting and forecasting, parts and service, as well as used car management. This allows Northwood's students the opportunity to develop an understanding of the entire automotive dealership business.

In 1963, the National Automobile Dealers Association selected Northwood University as the college to develop the only collegiate degree program in Automotive Retail Management. Northwood's graduates are prepared for a wide range of management positions with domestic and international auto manufacturers, dealerships and the global marketing companies that serve the industry.
