Northwood University and the World Trade Center Palm Beach (WTCPB) recently hosted Mr. Dusan Caplovic, Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic and other Slovakian leaders at Northwood's Jeannette Hare Art Gallery.

Designed to foster increased trade and promote cross cultural awareness, providing insight relating to Palm Beach County and the South Florida community, the familiarization tour came as part of an ongoing collaborative effort between the WTCPB and Mrs. Cecilia Rokusek, Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic for Florida.

Dr. Rose B. Bellanca, Northwood University Florida Campus Provost stated, "As Northwood University celebrates its 50th anniversary, it is more dedicated than ever to preparing the future leaders of a global, free-enterprise society. Therefore, we are honored to have the opportunity to host this World Trade Center Familiarization Tour of Slovakian leaders. With the goal of fostering increased trade and promoting cross-cultural awareness while providing essential Palm Beach County insight to the international community, we look forward to working together toward nourishing this objective."

In addition to the many Northwood University International Business students in attendance, Northwood Alumnus Marian Stupka, now COO of investment management firm OakRun Capital LLC, couldn't believe it when he learned that his 'home country' leaders would be gathering at his alma mater. "It was an honor for me to be part of this amazing event, and to represent both Northwood University and the Slovak Republic. Thanks to growing up in Slovakia and attending Northwood University, I've learned that in this global business environment we must continue to attract international students to degree programs that will benefit diversified business climates first-hand. Presentations that I heard were heartwarming, and I am proud that Slovakia is following footsteps of successful world economies and making huge steps forward," he said.

In addition to Deputy Prime Minister Caplovic, other dignitaries included Slovak Ambassador to the US, Peter Burian. Director of the Deputy Prime Minister's Office, Katarina Haskova; Deputy Prime Minister Advisor, Stefan Komjaty; Second Secretary from the Embassy of the Slovak Republic to the United States, Vit Koziak; Interpreter Katarina Cockrell; Emeritus Slovak Honorary Consul for Florida, Dr. Robert Petrik; and Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic for Florida, Cecilia Rokusek. Industries of interest for this familiarization tour include the biomedical and life sciences as well as the technological transfer sciences. In addition bi-lateral travel, tourism and scholastic enrichment are of key interest.

World Trade Center Palm Beach, now in its 11th year, welcomes the opportunity to collaborate with the Slovak Republic and Northwood University as part of its efforts to expand both global and local business opportunities. Since it's inception, WTCPB has hosted over a dozen Familiarization Tours with the purpose of bringing Palm Beach County to the attention of the international marketplace.
