CEDAR HILL – As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, Northwood University is holding two of its signature programs during the first weekend of October.

"The Outstanding Alumni Achievement Awards Reunion is designed to continue to build a spirit of ONE Northwood. We're inviting all alumni who have been honored as Outstanding Alumni and live in the West/Southwest Region, no matter which campus of Northwood they attended," said Denise Ward, Northwood's Regional Alumni & Friends Director of the West and Southwest. "This is all part of our Texas campus homecoming weekend, where we will honor and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Northwood University."

The Crossing Over ceremony symbolizes the "crossing over" of Northwood University graduates, students, colleagues and friends of the university from various backgrounds and bonds them with one another by inducting them into knighthood. Held annually on the first Saturday of October, the Texas Campus Crossing Over Ceremony is steeped in the lore of Knights, chivalry, honor, freedom and officially inducts participants into Northwood Knighthood.

Based on the Northwood Code of Ethics and the Knights Code of Honor, this ceremony is open to all Northwood graduates, regardless of campus affiliation, current Texas campus students, Northwood employees who have worked for the university for more than one year, and Northwood friends who have contributed to Northwood in a significant way as determined by the Regional Alumni Leadership Council-West/Southwest.

The Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award is given by the university to its graduates exhibiting the highest qualifications including significant career achievement and support and involvement in the local community, support and commitment to Northwood University and its entrepreneurial and ethical philosophies.

"Our mission is to apply the American free enterprise ethic to a completely practical business education in management fields and balance that education with an appreciation for the arts and a comprehension of the entire world as one community," said Keith Pretty, President and CEO of Northwood University. "It's a tall order, but Northwood has been highly successful - because our graduates have been highly successful. Northwood alumni are out there proving it every day."
