MBA students work with "FastTrac," an entrepreneurial focused endeavor

On August 18th, Antoine Carr and Elias Hodges, DeVos Graduate School students, along with Georgia Abbott, Director of the Alden B. Dow Center for Creativity & Enterprise, attended the "FastTrac to the Future -- The First Day of Your Entrepreneurial Adventure" in Detroit, Mich. This endeavor was in part sponsored by the Kauffman Foundation and TechTown, the business incubator near the Wayne St. University campus. The event was organized to provide multiple layers of support to Southeastern Michigan aspiring entrepreneurs. Chris Gardner, author of "The Pursuit of Happiness" and "Start where you are" was the keynote speaker for the days' event.

As committed natives of Flint and Pontiac, MI , Hodges and Carr volunteered as "curbside consultants" to the new entrepreneurs in Detroit. The role of the curbside consultants was to coach the attending entrepreneurs (there were over 600 in attendance) who presented their business concepts in short 15 min. discussions and then gained free advice and encouragement for further education, market perspectives, and next steps from the consultants.

After volunteering, Hodges and Carr visited the Techtown business incubator, toured the facility and the Henry Ford Hospital laboratory for human tissue research with a chief research MD, housed in the Techtown incubator.

Hodges and Carr are both seriously considering careers as business consultants to further assist the southeast region of Michigan after graduation.
