Northwood University to Hold Opening Convocation on September 14

Northwood University will hold Opening Convocation on Monday, September 14 at 10 a.m. in the Bennett Sports Center on campus.

MIDLAND, MI – Northwood University will hold Opening Convocation on Monday, September 14 at 10 a.m. in the Bennett Sports Center on campus. Opening Convocation is held at the beginning of each school year to welcome all of our students and to celebrate the new academic year. The title for the convocation address will be "The NU Idea: A Mechanism for Remaining Positive While Managing Through Turbulent Times."

Following the invocation given by Lance Lewis, academic dean, will be the welcome and opening remarks of Dr. David D. Long, provost of the Michigan Campus. Keith A. Pretty, J.D., president & CEO of Northwood, will deliver the convocation address.

At the conclusion of President Pretty's remarks, David Long will present Nancy L. & R. William Barker with the 2009 Naegele Distinguished Community Service Award. Following the acceptance of their award, Professor Jeffrey Phillips will accept the Samuel R. Marotta Faculty Ethics Award presented by David Long. The closing benediction will be given by David Long.

Faculty and staff will be joining the freshman luncheon for a "Welcome Picnic" this Saturday, September 5, from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Bennett Sports Center parking lot under the tent—before the NU football game vs. Northern Michigan.

Northwood University will greet these new freshmen and returning students. School officially will begin on Wednesday, September 9.
