Recently the Northwood University campus in Midland had the privilege to host Chinese dignitaries from Jilin University-Lambton College. Jilin University-Lambton College (JLU-L) is located in Changchun, Jilin Province, China. JLU-L consists of a three-year diploma program, with the fourth year offering Northwood courses for a BBA degree in Management. The program allows students to earn their Northwood degree in China or at one of the three campuses in North America.
Dr. Ji Zhao, vice president of Jilin University; Dr. Ke Tian and Ms. Hongxing Liang, both vice presidents of Jilin University-Lambton College; and other delegates arrived December 4th. They were greeted at the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth by Dr. Grover Proctor, associate dean for institutional research, and his wife along with Chinese graduates for dinner before arriving at Northwood.
The delegates were met on campus by Dr. Lance Lewis, dean of international programs, at the NADA Conference Center where they stayed. Following their arrival, Keith A. Pretty, president and CEO of Northwood University, signed a renewal of the two schools' memorandum of understanding after an official welcoming breakfast was given in their honor held at the Ashman Court Hotel. Accompanying them was President Pretty; Dr. Lance Lewis; Dr. Proctor; Karl Stephan, international controller; and Patricia Armstrong, director of international student services. Preceding breakfast, the delegates were presented with an "official gift" from Northwood University along with a campus tour.
During their visit at Northwood they met with various staff members on campus to learn about student support and Chinese students on campus. Among the topics discussed were academic and immigration/cultural support, graduate admissions, academic environment and policies, business and financial issues, and student life. Once the meetings had concluded, they were presented with a sendoff by Dr. Lance Lewis, Dr. David Long, Karl Stephan, and Dr. Grover Proctor.
