Sri Lanka - American National College
Program Overview
Recognizing the need for U.S. university business education in southern Asia, American National College (ANC), an educational branch of Ceylinco Consolidated (a multi-national conglomerate based in Colombo), and Northwood University (NU) formed a strategic alliance in 2004 to offer the bachelor of business administration (BBA) degree in Sri Lanka. Patten University, based in California, also joined in the strategic alliance, offering general education coursework. The University of Missouri-Rolla joined the alliance in 2007 to offer degrees in Information Technology.
Coursework is taught by a mixture of local/western adjunct faculty and NU faculty coming from the U.S. to guest lecture. The ANC program is based on a "2+2" format. Students take general education coursework in areas like English composition, economics, mathematics, history, sociology and philosophy from Patten University and introductory courses like Principles of Management, Principles of Accounting, and Principles of Marketing in the first two years at ANC. The Patten coursework is transferred into the NU program. In the following two years, students take coursework entirely from Northwood University in order to finish the BBA degree. Students have the option to:
- earn the entire degree in Sri Lanka.
- take coursework in Sri Lanka and then transfer to one of NU's campuses in the U.S.
Mr. Inderjet Chander serves as Academic Head for Northwood Programs and as a faculty member teaching Management coursework. American National College is at www.ancedu.com
