EXCEL Program
Employers are seeking "well-rounded" students, EXCEL and be one of them.
Northwood's unique EXCEL Student Development Program is representative of the University's deep commitment to the development of successful business professionals in a global, free-enterprise society. Northwood University expects each of it
s students to choose a minimum of 40 hours (5 credits) of EXCEL programming for each year that they are enrolled at the University. The University's professional staff offers an array of programs throughout the academic year, which helps our students realize how important involvement is to their personal and professional growth. These programs fall into five EXCEL categories:
- Professional Development (workshops / employment)
- Campus & Community Arts (workshops / performances)
- Community Service/Volunteerism (fundraisers / service activities)
- Leadership Development (workshops / leadership positions)
- Organizations & Activities (varsity sports / clubs and organizations)
Participation in the EXCEL program is recorded on a Student Development Transcript (SDT), which is the co-curricular equivalent of the Student's Academic Transcript. Both transcripts are sent out to employers, scholarship committees and graduate school admissions offices whenever a student requests an academic transcript. Together they demonstrate the student's commitment to becoming an educated and productive employee and community member.
Students can submit an EXCEL Program Verification form for professional work and volunteer experiences they have had while attending Northwood University. Submit the form to the EXCEL Office located in the SLC Office Suite.
Participation in the EXCEL Program will provide you a competitive edge, professional growth, leadership development, and creative skills which are essential for success in the business world and will bring greater fulfillment to your life.
