January-February, 2008 Highlights
Saturday, January 19 @8:00p.m.-- Tony award-winning actor and singer, Christian Hoff, performs at the new Grand Marquee in Wellington. Tickets are $20 for NU students, and $25 for NU faculty/staff and guests. Tickets are on sale in the Student Services Office in the Student Life Center (see Greta, Joe, or Nicole--your ticket sales specialists!). Students earn 2 hours towards an EXCEL credit in the ARTS for attending.
Thursday, January 31 @ 7:00 p.m. - Winter term Artist-in-Residence, flamenco/classical guitarist Howard Greenblatt will be performing in Turner Auditorium. This event is FREE and open to the public.
Thursday, February 7 @7:30p.m.-- the Northwood University "Pinstripe Players" proudly present "Winter One-Acts"; a collection of One-Act Plays. This show includes a comedy ("The Philadelphia" by David Ives), a drama ("War Letters") and an original "dramedy" ("I Have Cancer, but It Doesn't Have Me!". The show stars Thanyla Teixeira, Nicole Guckert, Jarrett Bayne, Lena Ouk, Valerie Narvaez, Shawntaria Franklin, and Greta Henglein. The performance is FREE and open to the public. Students attending earn 1.5 hours towards an ARTS EXCEL credit.
Second Annual "ARTS-4-ALL" Festival
Northwood-Florida celebrates the importance of access to the arts for all of us at our annual "ARTS-4-ALL" Festival. This 12-day festival highlights the best in music, dance, theatre, film, and the visual arts.
- Monday, January 28: Mozart's Birthday Celebration, 3:45p.m., DeVos-Cook
Come celebrate the birth of one of the world's greatest composers! Great music and delicious cake for all to enjoy!!
- Tuesday, January 29: Music Masters: The Best of the Blues, 6p.m., Turner Auditorium
Join us for this presentation and discussion about the greatest blues artists of all time. Students earn 1.5 hours towards an ARTS EXCEL credit.
- Wednesday, January 30: Artist-in-Residence Workshops, 10a.m. & 1p.m., Turner Auditorium
Northwood-Florida is pleased to welcome acclaimed flamenco/classical guitarist, Howard Greenblatt, as our winter term Artist-in-Residence. Learn about the creative process, marketing, and management from this talented musician. Students attending on their own (not with their class) will earn 1 hour towards an ARTS EXCEL credit.
- Thursday, January 31: Artist-in-Residence 1p.m. Workshop & 7p.m. Performance, Auditorium
Join us for a great evening of flamenco/classical guitar music performed by our Artist-in-Residence, Howard Greenblatt. The evening performance is FREE and open to the public. Students who attend will earn 1.5 hours towards an ARTS EXCEL credit.
- Friday, February 1: Friday Night Film Critics "Oleanna", 5p.m., DeVos-Cook Room 100
This month we will watch and critique the film adaptation of David Mamet's classic play about political correctness set against the backdrop of a contemporary university. The film stars William H. Macy. Students who attend will earn 2.5 hours towards an ARTS EXCEL credit. As always, food and beverages will be provided for all of our critics!
- Saturday, February 2: The Art of Photography, Noon-2p.m., Student Life Center Room 123
Bring your camera as we meet to examine photography as an art form and how each of us can use film as our own arts canvas. Lunch and beverages will be provided. Students who attend will earn 2 hours towards an ARTS EXCEL credit.
- Sunday, February 3: The Super Bowl of Creativity Party, 6p.m., Student Life Center
If you primarily watch the Super Bowl to see the latest and greatest in commercials, join us at the SLC for a special celebration of creativity. You can check out the Super Bowl game while also creating your own drawings, paintings, etc. Arts supplies will be provided, along with refreshments. Join us!
- Monday, February 4: At the Ballet, Noon-1p.m., Dalby Private Dining Room
Bring your lunch into the Dalby Private Dining Room while we view some of the world's greatest ballet performances. Students attending earn 1 hour towards an ARTS EXCEL credit.
- Tuesday, February 5: Acoustic Coffeehouse, 9p.m., Jazzman's Cafe in the Student Life Center
Do you write poetry? Are you a musician? Do you enjoy singing for a crowd? Then you'll definitely want to perform at the Acoustic Coffeehouse, sponsored by Northwood Nights. Everyone who attends will receive a complimentary coffee. Come to entertain, or be entertained!!
- Wednesday, February 6: The Broadway Workout, 7p.m., SLC Aerobics Room
For NU students/faculty/staff who love Broadway musicals, join us for this fun and invigorating workout!
- Thursday, February 7th: Winter One-Acts, 7:30p.m., Turner Auditorium
This performance of three one-act plays (see description above) is FREE and open to the public.
- Friday, February 8: Morikami Museum Trip, departing campus at 1p.m.
Student tickets are $5.00 and may be purchased in the EXCEL office in Dalby.
