Welcome to Seahawk Baseball
The 2007-08 Northwood University baseball team is motivated to improve on the 2007 season's record of 24-28 and 6-15 in FSC play. Ninth year head coach Rick Smoliak (225-183-2 record at Northwood, 303-294-5 overall) is counting on several outstanding lettermen returning to make a contribution as the Seahawks set their sights on their first ever Florida Sun Conference Championship.
Returning players including Justin Courtright (Sr., 3-1, 1.71 ERA), Justin Knoll (So., 6-1, 5.02 ERA), Eric Woodward (Sr., 326 BA), Jairo Veras (Sr., .329 BA), and Corey Cooke (Jr., .325 BA).
Also expected to play a major role are Kelly Gonzalez (.311 BA), Jonathan Velasquez (Sr., 2-7, 5.62 ERA), Adam Bornstein (Jr., .270 BA), Cole Boneri (Jr., .321 BA), James Maley (Sr., .294 BA), and Neil Forsyth (Sr., 2-4, 4.83 ERA).
Seahawk baseball has had great success recruiting several quality student athletes, both as transfers and high school graduates. In this years recruiting class are infielder Danny Speering (Palm Beach C.C.), outfielder Nik Smith (Monterey Peninsula C.C.), pitcher Robert Kelly (Monterey C.C.), pitcher Steve Brodt (College of DuPage), infielder Frankie Mambua (Gulf Coast High School, Naples), pitcher Rajiv Gosine (Shorter College), and outfielder/pitcher Chad Marcus, (South Fort Myers HS).
The outlook for the season looks very promising. Blending in the new recruits with returning players will be key - the competition for positions will make everyday practice and games exciting and challenging.
We are always on the lookout for outstanding student-athletes. If you feel you would like to be a part of Seahawk Baseball contact head coach Rick Smoliak at (561)-681-7953 or at smoliak@northwood.edu. Also, please fill out a prospective player form on the Northwood athletics website.
