2009-10 FALL ORIENTATION SCHEDULE
New and Transfer Students. Orientation is an important step for insuring a positive start to your school year. Even if you have attended another university or are coming to Florida from another Northwood University campus, there are differences in processes and facilities that you should be familiar with before you begin classes.
Saturday, September 5, 2009 - RESIDENTIAL STUDENTS ONLY
7:00 am -11:00 pm Residential Student check-in for Housing. Stauffer Complex
(Students are encouraged to arrive before noon)
Residential students will have the day to move into their apartments, meet roommates and get settled. Residential services staff and volunteers will be available to help with the move-in process. You are encouraged to arrive as early as possible on this day.
11:00 am - 1:00 pm Brunch - Marketplace
1:00 - 5:00 pm Taking Care of Business - Turner Bldg.
"Taking Care of Business" is a time for students to receive their student identification cards, register for Northwood Now! (our emergency alert system), register a vehicle, receive a library card, and obtain a Northwood login and password for our computer network. This is also a time to meet with the Business Office and Financial Aid Office to address any financial issues or questions.
5:00 - 6:30 pm Dinner - Marketplace
7:00 - 8:30 pm Residence Hall Meetings - Stauffer Complex
Residents will meet with the fellow residents and resident assistants to discuss the issues involved with living on campus. It is very important that all new residential students attend these meetings!
9:00 pm Residential Life Block Party - Meet your new neighbors!
Sunday, September 6, 2009 – ALL NEW AND TRANSFER STUDENTS
11:00 am Provost Welcome - Student Life Center
The Provost will welcome all new students to the campus. Students and parents will have a chance to meet the campus staff and review the orientation process.
11:30 am - 1:00 pm Brunch for all new students, transfer students, parents and family - Marketplace
1:15 - 3:30 pm Academic General Orientation - Student Life Center
This is a very important session for all new and transfer students. The Academic Dean will introduce academic staff and review academic policies and procedures. Students will meet the faculty and learn about the various programs. New students will also be participating throughout orientation in an activity known as "the NU Apprentice." Teams of students and faculty will be competing over the next three days to prove who has the best business skills. You will be assigned a team with other students and faculty from your program, so this is a great chance to get to know your faculty and students who you will see every day in class.
3:45 - 5:00 pm Student Services Orientation - Student Life Center
The Dean of Students will discuss support services and opportunities available to all students. Staff from housing, career services, student life, recreation, health services, counseling and security will be available to answer questions.

Monday, September 7, 2009 - ALL NEW AND TRANSFER STUDENTS
7:00 - 8:30 am Breakfast - Marketplace
8:30 - 10:00 am Class Schedules / Academic Advisors - DeVos-Cook
Students will meet with their academic advisors, receive and review their class schedules and complete required academic paperwork.
8:30 am - 12:00 pm Placement Testing (math and English placement) DeVos-Cook
Students are placed in a math or English class based on high school and/or transfer grades and SAT/ACT scores. Students wishing to challenge their placement in math or English courses may take a placement test in either or both subjects. THIS IS NOT REQUIRED. Only students wishing to be placed in a higher level course need to take a placement test.

"In The Know Expo"
Student Services will present booth and information sessions on campus life, services, and activities, including our EXCEL program. Area vendors such as banks will also be available for students.
1:45 - 4:00 pm Apprentice Activity II - DeVos-Cook
Students will continue to work in their groups with their faculty in preparation for the final challenge.
4:00 - 6:00 pm Van tours of the area (optional) - Meet at the front of the Turner Bldg.
Students have an opportunity to tour the local area and find local shopping, potential off-campus employment opportunities, recreation and entertainment venues and the beach.
2:00 - 3:30 pm Special Session for Parents - DeVos-Cook, Room 100
Parents have an opportunity to meet with the Provost, Academic Dean and Dean of Students to gain additional information and have questions answered.
4:00 - 5:30 pm Reception for Parents - Jeannette Hare Art Gallery
Parents will have an opportunity to meet informally with the Provost, deans, faculty and the campus senior leaders.
5:00 - 6:30 pm Dinner - Marketplace
8:00 pm The Jove - improv comedy group - Turner Auditorium

Transfer and returning students wishing to change, add or drop classes from their schedule may do so at this time. Transfer students must see their academic advisor before making any changes to their schedule.
11:00 am - 12:00 pm Workstudy and Financial Aid meeting - Turner Auditorium
Students receiving financial aid, participating in the federal workstudy program or wishing to work on campus must attend this meeting. Please bring a photo I.D. or U.S passport and your original social security card to this meeting.
11:00 am - 12:00 pm Meeting for all International Students - DeVos-Cook, Room 100
All International students must attend this meeting. Please bring your passport and I-20 visa with you. Students will meet with the international student advisor to discuss important processes and programs.
11:30 am - 1:30 pm Lunch - Marketplace
1:00 - 2:00 pm Meeting for Disabilities Services - Turner Bldg., Room 206
Students with documented learning disabilities and/or physical disabilities requiring accommodations must attend this meeting with the Learning Resource Center director. Parents are encouraged to attend with their student.
1:00 - 2:00 pm Athletic Department Meeting - Turner Auditorium
All intercollegiate athletes are required to attend this session with the Athletic Director and coaches.
1:30 - 5:00 pm Drop / Add for all students - DeVos-Cook Bldg.

2:00 - 4:30 pm Apprentice Finale - Campus Commons
NU Apprentice groups will compete in the final challenge.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
- All new and transfer students must check-in with the Admissions office when they arrive on campus for the first time.
- If you are not able to attend all or part of the orientation, please contact the Admissions office at 800-458-8325 or 561-478-5500 and let us know your anticipated arrival date.
- All Marketplace meals will be provided for students and parents during orientation at no cost.
