Each Northwood University campus has an International Student Advisor (ISA) who provides support and assistance to international students. The ISA is typically the university’s official link with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The ISA advises students, faculty, staff and administrators on regulations pertaining to international students and typically completes and files forms and reports with the USCIS as required by law.
The ISA advises students about issues related to non-immigrant alien status and on personal matters such as adjustment to living in the United States. The ISA may also assist students with academic matters or may refer them to an academic counselor. The ISA also serves as an appropriate advocate on behalf of international students in dealing with the USCIS or other government agencies or campus offices and departments. Always remember, however, that the ISA is legally bound to uphold university regulations, USCIS regulations and state and U.S. law.
The ISA provides or assists with an international student orientation at the beginning of each academic year, and may provide a more limited orientation at the start of each term. The ISA also distributes information to the international student community. The International Student Advisors can be located by campus.
