Vice President, Finance and Treasurer

The Vice President of Finance is the chief financial officer of the University. He is responsible for all financial transactions, for legal compliance, for human resources and other finance-related functions. He also serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees.

Donald Hunkins, a Certified Public Accountant, is the Chief Financial Officer at Northwood University and has responsibility for the fiscal affairs of the institution. Northwood University is a multi-campus organization offering undergraduate education in 12 states and graduate work in Michigan. Prior experience includes Chief Financial Officer of a multi-bank holding company, Internal Auditor at Ford Motor Company and Senior Accountant at Price Waterhouse LLP. Mr. Hunkins serves on many professional committees. He is Past Chair of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Michigan Self-Insured Workers’ Compensation Fund; formerly served as Committee Chair, Treasurer, and President of the Central Association of College and University Business Officers (CACUBO) and Secretary of the board of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). Mr. Hunkins is a Consultant Evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Active in many church and cultural activities, he has also held numerous volunteer positions in civic organizations. He has been a guest lecturer for many professional organizations. Recent topics have included the accounting for post-retirement benefits, health care freedom, taxation of employee benefits and other business topics. He has also taught many accounting, banking and other business courses. Mr. Hunkins is a graduate of Michigan State University.
