Mary Smith was a founder and president of a successful independent insurance agency in Palm Beach County for many years and has risen to the top of this competitive industry. Mary currently serves as president and managing director for The Cumberland Financial Group, LLC in St. Marys, Georgia.  She holds the designation of a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC). 

She is a consummate entrepreneur and a champion of positive growth in the lives of people who are touched by her work. She has been a lecturer, counselor, an advocate for sexually abused and battered women, and a successful fundraiser for  the homeless.

Ms. Smith founded the Success Series at Northwood University, which has brought entrepreneurs together with other role models and students to inspire all participants with an appreciation for the challenges and opportunities of the future.

Mary Smith received the Northwood University Silver Circle Award in 1997 for her compassionate work and an honorary doctorate degree in 1998. Dr. Smith and her husband, Charles A. Smith, have six children and thirteen grandchildren. They now reside in West Palm Beach, Florida, and St. Marys, Georgia.
