Benefits Overview

An important part of your compensation is your benefit package. Northwood expects to continue its benefit plan indefinitely, but reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate any plan. If such steps are taken, you will be notified. (Collective bargaining benefits may differ according to contract terms.)

Medical

ConnectCare PPO (All locations excluding Maine) In-network $200 calendar year deductible, $400 max. per family deductible, 90% coverage with some exceptions. Out–of-Network $250 calendar year deductible, $500 max. per family deductible, 70% coverage with some exceptions. Comprehensive coverage (Maine employees only) $250 calendar year deductible, $500 max. per family deductible, 80% coverage with some exceptions.

Dental

Comprehensive coverage (all locations) No deductible, 85% coverage with some exceptions. Cost included in medical premium or optional “Dental only” coverage.

Prescription Drugs

20% for brand/generic ($20 maximum co-pay). Mail-order 20% for brand/generic ($40 maximum co-pay). Cost included in monthly medical premium.

NOTE: Eligible employees must be active and participating in the health plan on January 1, of the following year, to be eligible for the Health Care rebate.

Long Term Disability

Up to 70% of basic monthly earnings.

Life/AD & D

Life is 3 x Annual Earnings. Accidental death is equal to Life benefit. Acts of terrorism and war are excluded from accidental death benefit. Dismemberment coverage depends on circumstances.

Long Term Care

$1,000/mo facility, $500/mo home care, $36,000 max.

Flexible Spending Account

The Flexible Spending Account allows you to reimburse yourself for non-covered health care and dependent care expenses on a “before tax” basis.

Employee Advisory Resource

A confidential Employee Assistance Program that provides professional support to employees.

TIAA/CREF

(Retirement Plan) The employee contributes 5% of their salary and Northwood matches 8%. The employee is fully and immediately vested.

Tuition Policy

Full-time employees, their spouses and dependents may take undergraduate Northwood classes tuition-free.

University Paid Holidays

Most national legal holidays. In addition, Northwood employees receive the week between Christmas and New Year’s as a paid holiday.

Vacation

Vacation is accrued through the academic year to a maximum of either 10, 15 or 20 working days depending on employee status. Faculty does not accrue vacation.

Sick Leave

Sick days are accumulated at the rate of one day per month to a maximum of 120 days.

Personal Days

Non-faculty employees have 2 paid personal days available during the academic year depending on the hire date.
