    • Join in community engagement activities
    • Become familiar with campus resources
    • Get to know faculty and staff who are available to help you
    • Celebrate your accomplishments during the program’s graduation ceremony and reception

    Unleash Your Potential

The Educational Success Program will help you prepare for the academic rigors of college as you embark on life as a freshman. This is a mandatory program for students admitted on academic probation. Students who are admitted on probation must attend and successfully pass the Educational Success Program in order to enroll in the fall semester at Northwood University. Once you do, you are on your way to earning your degree from one of the largest, most highly respected business institutions in the country.

    FAQs

WHEN WILL I CREATE MY FALL SCHEDULE?

The Educational Success Program students do not build their schedules during orientation. Rather, near the end of the program there will be a session dedicated to registering for fall semester. During this time, the student mentors and academic advisors will be available to assist you through this process.

DO I NEED TO ATTEND A SUMMER ORIENTATION, AS WELL AS THE EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS PROGRAM?

Yes, all new freshmen attend a summer orientation session. Educational Success Program students have a dedicated session during orientation to provide information and expectations of the Educational Success Program.

DO I GO HOME AFTER THE EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS PROGRAM ENDS OR CAN I STAY ON CAMPUS THROUGH WELCOME WEEKEND?

We highly recommend you take advantage of the opportunity to return home before Welcome Weekend. We have purposely concluded the program a few days prior to Welcome Weekend so you will have the opportunity to relax and regroup. Exceptions will be made for students who notify us in advance that they do not have access to return home.

DO I HAVE TO LIVE ON CAMPUS DURING THE EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS PROGRAM?

We require all students to live on campus during the duration of the Educational Success Program. This will allow you to get the maximum benefit from the program, as well as provide you the best opportunity to get to know the campus, faculty, staff, mentors, and peers.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO CAMPUS WHEN I COME FOR THE EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS PROGRAM?

Students will be moving into their permanent rooms when they arrive for the Educational Success Program. As such, you may choose to bring all of your belongings for the year or just what you will need during the program.

We suggest that students, at minimum, bring the following recommended items: bedding (extra-long, twin), bath towels, a fan, comfortable clothing, personal spending money (however, all meals and events are included in the program), snacks, and entertainment items (some students like to bring a television and/or computer).

SHOULD MY PARENTS ATTEND ANY OF THE SESSIONS DURING THE EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS PROGRAM?

Parents are encouraged to join us for the Welcome and Program Information Session. This session includes important information for both parents and students. In addition, parents are invited to join us in celebrating the successes of our students at the Graduation and Reception.

DO I GET TO REQUEST A ROOMMATE?

All students may submit roommate requests, as we try to accommodate all preferences if they are submitted with your initial housing contract and at least a few weeks prior to the program. However, as with all roommate requests, there are times when roommate preferences cannot be granted.

I HAVE QUESTIONS REGARDING MY FINANCIAL AID AND THE COST OF TUITION; WHOM SHOULD I CONTACT REGARDING THIS?

We ask that students who are seeking financial assistance fill out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible (if you have not already done so) at www.fafsa.gov. Questions can be directed to our Financial Aid Office at 989.837.4230.

I AM A STUDENT-ATHLETE. DO I ATTEND PRACTICE DURING THE EDUCATIONAL SUCCESS PROGRAM?

So that student-athletes can fully participate in the Educational Success Program, they do not partake in their athletic practices, meetings, and/or games during the Educational Success Program. Coaches are aware of this and support their athletes’ full participation in the Educational Success Program.
