What's New at DeVos

DeVos Alumni Chapter News
The Detroit Area and Mid-Michigan Area DeVos Alumni Chapters both recently held “Leading with Emotional Intelligence” events with our resident EQ expert, Dr. Daniel Behring, facilitating the events.

Popular belief is that a person’s success is dictated by their intellectual capacity or intellectual quotient (IQ). Remarkably, a large number of studies reveal that EQ (self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management) is a much greater predictor of success in the workforce.

DeVos has recently added an individual EQ assessment for students in all of our MBA curriculums and have found the subject to be very engaging, so we thought it might be great subject of discussion for our alumni. All who attendees were asked to take the online BarOnEQ assessment test before the event. Results were distributed and discussed at each event.

Both events were well attended and feedback was extremely positive. One alum’s comments regarding the event: “Excellent choice of topic combined with personalized learning. I heard very positive comments from other alumni as we chatted.”

Both alumni chapters will be holding events again in the fall, our hope is to have our alumni drive these events so please let me know if you are interested in being an active member of either chapter.

Alumni Phonathon
This past Spring Devos conducted it’s first ever Annual Fund campaign through a “phonathon”. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of our alumni who made it a tremendous success! Many of you took advantage or your employer’s matching gift program; some of which doubled or even tripled your contribution. This alumni campaign generated over $7000 which will be used for such critical items as; scholarships, technology upgrades, and assist in our new branding and marketing focus to raise the awareness and prestige of your degree. In key categories such as participation rates and gift amounts; DeVos alums were 10-15% above the national average; proof that you hold your degree and alma mater in high regard and that the DeVos educational process has been a key contributor to your personal and professional success.

Remember, it’s never too late to make a gift of financial support. If you would like more information on giving opportunities or other ways you can help, please visit our website or contact Jeff Krebs, Director of Development, via email: krebsja@northwood.edu or phone 989.837.4272. Your donations are critical to the continued success of the DeVos Graduate School. A heartfelt thank you from all of the staff at DeVos.

DeVos Alumni Strategy… "IN SESSION"
Thursday May 18 at Zehnders of Frankenmuth marked a historic event for the Richard DeVos Graduate school of Management. A select group of 25 DeVos alumni representing each program of study (Executive, Managerial and Full-Time MBA), geographic location (Midland, Lansing and Troy), and various graduation years assembled for an inaugural DeVos Alumni and Development Strategy Planning Session.

The session provided a forum to fundamentally assess and develop a line of business strategy for the newly devised Alumni and Development segment of DeVos.

Attendees were provided detailed background data regarding alumni and advancement efforts to-date and encouraged to provide insight and feedback to aid in identifying the strategic needs, activity fits and activities of and for our esteemed alumni. The event was facilitated by Dr. Lisa Fairbairn, Professor and Lead Faculty of the DeVos Graduate School of Management.

The event clearly identified specific customer/alumni needs and measurable activity fits that will serve to lead our collective alumni and advancement efforts. Attendees assumed leadership roles in further developing subcommittees associated with the outcomes of the session and are seeking your involvement! Results of the event, strategy map, and lead alumni contact information will be forthcoming so be on the lookout!
